Supporting shop floor workers with a multimedia task-oriented information system
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper reports the work carried out as part of an industrial research project sponsored by a major telecommunication industry based in the UK. The main aim of the research was to investigate the extent to which a multimedia-based information system, developed for shop floor workers, has contributed to the increased efficiency and productivity of manufacturing operations. To achieve this, the work has focused on the design and execution of the evaluation of the system. Due to the fact that the direct impact of the implementation of the information system developed was difficult to demonstrate, it was decided to adopt the system usage as a surrogate of the system’s success and the user acceptance of the system was evaluated using both the Technology Acceptance Model and the Task-Technology Fit model.

Real Time Distributed Shop Floor Scheduling Using an Agent-Based Service-Oriented Architecture
This paper proposes a distributed manufacturing scheduling framework at the shop floor level. The shop floor is modeled as a collection of multiple workcells, each of which is modeled as a flexible manufacturing system. The framework consists of a distributed shop floor control structure, dynamic distributed scheduling algorithms, multi-agent system modeling of workcell, and service oriented in...
متن کاملHuman Oriented Production Management Considering Working Satisfaction
Even in an advanced factory, human workers or craftsmen have been required to achieve highly flexible and skillful production. This paper introduces the management architecture for human oriented production systems. The proposed architecture includes two technologies; one is the communication network in the factory using the active database system, and the other is the dynamic scheduling method...
متن کاملValue co-creation in the digital factory – The empowered role of shop floor workers
The current wave of digitalization has important implications for manufacturing companies. In this article, we suggest applying the theoretical lens of value co-creation as a comprehensive approach to explore the potential of digitalization trends. We use it to identify the potential of better integrating shop floor workers in the shaping of digital solutions and managerial actions. Insights fr...
متن کاملA semiautomatic task-oriented programming system for sensor-controlled robotised small-batch and one-off manufacturing
A task-oriented system structure has been developed. In normal industrial robot programming, the path is created and the process is based on the path. Here a process-focused method is proposed, where a task can be split in sub-tasks, one for each part of the process with similar process-characteristics. By carefully encapsulating the information needed to execute a sub-task, this component can ...
متن کاملA Service-Oriented Framework for Integration of Shop Floor Scheduling and Control
This paper presents an agent-based service-oriented framework to address the challenges for integrating real time shop floor scheduling and control in a multi-workcell environment. The proposed framework enables shop floor to adapt to the changes in the environment dynamically. Shop floor scheduling and control can address dynamic changes either within a workcell, such as machine breakdowns, or...
